First steps
Have you experienced a difficult situation (work or study-related conflicts, discrimination, harassment, bullying, stalking) and are you considering contacting someone you trust for support?
It can be helpful to seek support from someone close to your institute or department with specific knowledge of the local circumstances.
From 15 November 2024, 68 guides for GUIDE will serve as confidential initial contact persons at various locations throughout the university. Guides are trained volunteers providing confidential one-on-one conversations to help you understand your situation and explore possible next steps. As initial contacts, they can refer you to internal or external contact points and counselling options. In addition, all other confidential contact points at the university can also be contacted for confidential conversations.
Choose your guide within your institution or based on other characteristics (language skills, position,...) from the entire pool of guides at the university- and get information on further options for counselling or procedures at Heidelberg University.
Topics and concerns
Guides for GUIDE support you with an outside perspective if you are unsure about the right contact points. Guides are trained to assess your situation, even without details. Avoiding re-traumatization is the premise of the initial contact.
! Getting in contact with guides for GUIDE and the inital contact sessions are fundamentally confidential and anonymous, i.e. without mentioning names or details of third parties that would allow conclusions to be drawn about individuals!
You can contact them with a concern regarding work or study conflicts, but also for initial information on sexual harassment, sexual assault and violence, bullying, stalking and discrimination. Experiences of discrimination include sexist, racist, antisemitic, anti-Muslim, ableist, trans- or queer-hostile actions or statements.
